Hot Stove #126 – Baseball in the Time of No Baseball
This is Day 28 of our self-quarantine and Day 21 of KC’s Stay-At-Home order.
And another day of no baseball. I checked in yesterday with Royals owner John Sherman – it was his birthday (more on that later in this post). He sent back a message for Royals fans out in Hot Stove land: Continue reading
Hot Stove #125 – Baseball in the Time of Groundhog Day
This is Day 21 of our self-quarantine and Day 14 of KC’s Stay-At-Home order.
Skip Quimby tells me that for folks like us (i.e., over 70), it’s the new “aging in place.”
As for my intent to discontinue the day-by-day banter, I have failed. Blame Peggy Zilm. She likes it. Continue reading
Hot Stove Short – Sidd Finch Day
Welcome to Hot Stove #125, just two days after Hot Stove #124.
What? You haven’t yet finished #124? Don’t worry… Continue reading
Hot Stove #124 – Baseball in the Time of a Stay-At-Home Order (Llamaste)
Rita and I are now at Day 14 of our…
Self-Isolation? Self-Quarantine? Social Distancing on Steroids. Shelter-in-Place. Chris Shanklin sent another idea from Naples (Florida, not Italy). House Arrest.
As of March 24, Mayor Quinton Lucas defined our current legal status. He issued a “Stay-At-Home” order for Kansas City and was joined by the surrounding counties. Continue reading
Hot Stove #123 – Baseball in the Time of Cabin Fever
Today is Day 7 of social-distancing by Rita and Lonnie. Not from each other, but almost everyone else (exceptions: Rita’s trips for groceries and those folks we pass while walking Loose Park).
Lee Judge published a cartoon that captures this new reality (and gave me my title for this Hot Stove): Continue reading
Hot Stove #122 – Baseball in the Time of Coronavirus
Wow. Things are moving fast.
I’m not sure when the next Hot Stove will come out because…
I’m Going to the Mattresses: Like the Corleone family in The Godfather, I’m going to a hideout so the other gangster families can’t find me. Or a virus. Continue reading
Hot Stove #121 – The Ides of March and a Lonnie’s Jukebox Update (NOT really a Hot Stove)
NOTICE: This is not a regular Hot Stove post (i.e. baseball themed), but that’s the mailing list I am using (because it’s the only one I have). If you are on the list solely for baseball, feel free to hit delete and await my next email (although you might want to check out the songs at the end – some real gems). The primary purpose of this post is to update the other tags on the Lonnie’s Jukebox website. Kudos to son Brian who has done a superb job of building this website.
Hot Stove #120 – Spring Training (2020)
Royals pitchers and catchers reported to spring training in Surprise, Arizona, on February 12. Rita and I headed to Arizona on February 15. Royals position players reported to Surprise on February 17. Rita and I returned to Kansas City on February 19. We had been in Tucson. Surprise! We were not at spring training. More on our trip in Lonnie’s Jukebox at the end of this post.
Hot Stove #119 – The Oscars – Telluride Rocks!
I wanted Parasite to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards last night. Thought it was unlikely. South Korean film with subtitles. It would be the first non-English film to be Best Picture. To my pleasant surprise, it won.
